YOU SHOULD RECEIVE GRADE UPDATES WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. LONGER ASSIGNMENTS TAKE LONGER TO GRADE. I can usually get small stuff done during the week, but big items like lab reports and tests sometimes need to wait until Saturday. Please recognize that I also juggle a personal life around my teaching and clubs.

Be patient with grades. Between curriculum writing, lesson planning, worksheet writing, Academic Decathlon logistics (paperwork and such), science department work, Robotics, and lots of other little tasks and meetings end up chewing up my prep period most days, including what's most important - helping students who give up their study halls to work with me one-on-one. Even with my grading schedule (which isn't always a 48 hour turnaround like most people want)... people tell me I grade faster than most teachers. Hm...

Questions? Email is best. If you send an email after I leave work, do not expect a reply until I return from work. Plan ahead or consult a friend.

Recommendations: You must approach me directly. I get at least 10 emails a week from different organizations asking me to nominate students for such and such award. If you do not speak to me in person, I will likely think that your recommendation request is spam and won't respond. I am absolutely happy to write recommendations for good and enthusiastic students.

IF YOUR QUESTION IS ABOUT GRADES, YOU MUST SPEAK DIRECTLY WITH MR. CERAMI. I, AS A PERSONAL POLICY, DO NOT DISCUSS GRADES OVER EMAIL. IF IT IS ABOUT A SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENT, YOU MUST BRING THAT COPY OF THE ASSIGNMENT WITH YOU TO DISCUSS. YOUR EMAIL WILL NOT RECEIVE A RESPONSE IF IT IS ABOUT GRADES. (Parents are an obvious exception.)

BEFORE YOU ASK, KNOW THAT
-MR. CERAMI DOES NOT OFFER EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS.
-THE GRADE EARNED IS THE GRADE RECEIVED.
-GRADES ARE NON-NEGOTIABLE AND NOT TO BE DEBATED FOR.
-THE ONLY TIME I WILL ADJUST A GRADE IS IF I MAKE A MISTAKE IN GRADING YOUR ASSIGNMENT IN YOUR FAVOR, NOT BECAUSE YOU'RE "OH SO CLOSE" TO GETTING THE NEXT HIGHEST GRADE.
-THE COMPUTER DOES NOT SEPARATE THE FINAL EXAM FROM THE SECOND QUARTER GRADE UNTIL THE REPORT CARD COMES OUT. AFTER THE FINAL, WHAT YOU SEE AS YOUR 2ND QUARTER GRADE IS INACCURATE BECAUSE IT IS INCLUDING THE FINAL EXAM AS AN EXTRA ASSIGNMENT.
-MR. CERAMI, AT TIMES, DOES ADJUST QUARTER AND FINAL GRADES TO REFLECT A SINCERE ENTHUSIASM AND EFFORT. THESE ADJUSTMENTS ARE NOT TO BE ASKED FOR. THEY WILL ALREADY HAVE BEEN GIVEN. IF YOU RECEIVE ONE OF THESE ADJUSTMENTS AND ASK FOR MORE, YOU WILL BE BUMPED BACK TO WHERE YOU WERE.

THE KEY TO SUCCESS? BE R.E.A.L.
REJECT PASSIVITY
EMPATHIZE WITH OTHERS
ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY
LEAD COURAGEOUSLY
